Goodies Co. April 2013 Unboxing and Review!

Hi guys! I received my very FIRST Goodies Co. subscription box the other day. I've been at my grandparents house, so this is a little late, and yes, I'm 20 years old and still sleep at my grandparents house. :P If you don't know what Goodies Co is, it's a monthly subscription box in which you pay a flat $7 a month, and receive a box full (5-8) of goodies at your doorstep! $7 a month is ridiculously cheap and awesome for what you get in here :)

Now I read a lot of poor reviews on this box, saying it was terrible and one of the worst boxes people have got. This was my first one, so I can't say it was terrible. Not to mention I got this one for free since it was my first box (they had sent me a promotional thing to get my first box free). A lot of people said they were canceling, but I mean for $7 a month, I think it's well worth it if you get some junk months, it's all in the fun of subscription boxes. Also, it's to help you try out new foods, so personally I think it's worth it to get these sample sizes rather than spend all my money on something that I'm not going to like!

When I received my box, my mom was like, "THAT'S ALL YOU GOT?!" but I had to remind her that it only cost $7, and I also got that box for free...then she eased up. I also made her, my dad and my niece do taste tests with me :).

This is what I got:

030This box came with 7 items...but really only 6, because the gift card I can't even use. Now while I tell you about the product, I'm going to insert what my family and I thought about the products. We had a little taste test. as I said above, and I got all of their opinions on the products to share with you all :) The first product I received was:

031Celsius Calorie Reducing Drink in Sparkling Orange. This is a healthy energy drink that with moderate exercise, burns up to 100 extra calories! It has the bubbly taste of sweet blood oranges that offer a slightly less acidic flavor. This has no sugar, no aspartame, very low sodium, no artificial preservatives, no high fructose corn syrup and no artificial colors or flavors! It comes in a few different flavors such as this Sparkling Orange, Sparkling Cola and Sparkling Wild Berry which are all carbonated, and Raspberry Acai Green Tea and Peach Mango Green Tea which aren't.

Now to be honest, I wasn't really crazy about this product, and not really about the product itself, but the flavor I received. I thought that it was WAY to sour for my like, and I really couldn't see myself drinking a whole 12 fl oz. can of it alone.

Niece: Loved the taste, she thought it tasted just like Izzie which is her all time FAVORITE drink.

Mom: Liked it as well, said she'd purchase this before soda any day.

Dad: Thought it was good, but more than likely wouldn't purchase it. Also thought it was very sour and left a bad aftertaste.

You can purchase a 4 pack of this energy drink on the Celsius website (which will be listed below) for $6.99 making this sample roughly $1.74.

032The next product was a 0.5 oz bag of Angie's Delightfully Different Sweet & Salty Popcorn. This says that it is a Small Batch Kettle Corn made with sea salt, which is a HUGE love in my house. We're all about the sea salt, and recently converted my dad into loving it, he now doesn't buy regular salt, he HAS to have sea salt. Sweet & Salty is Angie's CLASSIC flavor, being that every taste bud craves the perfect balance of sweetness and salt. This is made by a husband and wife duo that use nothing but real, everyday ingredients such as popcorn, sunflower oil, evaporated cane juice and sea salt!

PopcornWe love popcorn in my household, so this was a huge hit. Everyone loved it! It was delicious and not dry, and really was perfectly salted. It didn't make my mouth dry up like regular buttered and salted popcorn does. I really liked it, but couldn't necessarily taste the sweetness as much as my other family members could. I really liked the salt, and how it wasn't overpowering.

Niece: Also didn't taste the sweetness a lot, but still loved it.

Mom: Loved it, and also tried finding it in stores but was greatly disappointed when she couldn't find it anywhere. I have a few stores that I know she hasn't looked in that I'll have to check for her. She really, really liked it.

Dad: Also really loved it, he wouldn't stop eating it!

You can purchase a 7 oz bag on their website for $3.99 or a 6. ct snack pack for $5.99 making this sample roughly $1.00.

033Next we have my personal favorite of the box, a 0.8 oz bag of Green Giant's Multigrain Sweet Potato Chips with Sea Salt. The package really says nothing about the product...so I had to do a little research. These are "Crisp multigrain chips sweetened by real sweet potato and a savory sprinkling of sea salt" according to Goodies.Co.
Sweet Potato Chips

I personally really loved these! The texture of them were perfect and reminded me of those Munchies chips! The flavor was outstanding as well, the sea salt was perfect, and wasn't overpowering. They look like corn chips, but they're actually nothing like them.   As I said before, these were my favorite out of the box.

Niece: Didn't like it, she actually spit it out.

Mom: Loved it! She thought the same thing I did!

Dad: Not crazy about them, they taste like Munchies. Nothing too spectacular.

You can purchase these at Walmart for $2.18, making this sample roughly $0.40.

034Next we have a 0.7 oz package of Frontier Crunchy Energizing Bites in Almond+Blueberry+Lemon! These are granola like bites that are supposed to give you a good energizing boost! These bites are non-GMO, gluten-free, soy-free, dairy-free, preservative- free, and include no refined sugars! They also come in flavors such as the one I received, Macademia+Pineapple+Coconut, and Pecan+Cherry+Cinnamon. It's cool because recently they ended a KickStarter Campaign to produce more flavors and get single serving sized packages, so people who are on the go can take these with them. Now for the bad news...

frontier bites

My whole family thought these were disgusting. I honestly thought they had no flavor what so ever, and felt as if I were chewing on a thick sheet of cardboard. These were supposedly Almond+Blueberry+Lemon, but I could only taste a faint hint of lemon in them. I'm really not sure how these are "energizing bites" at all either. They were EXTREMELY hard to chew, and actually felt as if I was cutting my mouth up with them. I had to spit them out.

Niece: Disgusting, plain, boring, spit it out.

Mom: Gross, had no flavor, was hard to chew.

Dad: NASTY! Spit it out as well.

You can purchase a 100g bag on their website for $5.99 making this 20g sample roughly $1.20 which to be honest, I wouldn't pay.

035

Up next we have the GROSSEST product in the box! This is a TrueBar from Bakery on Main. All it says on the front is "I'm a fruit and nut bar with nothing to hide"...so it doesn't technically tell you a flavor, but by looking at the ingredients, I can tell you it has almonds, raisin juice, cranberries, raisins, chia seeds walnuts and hazel nuts to name a few. It's honestly not even worth going into detail because I don't recommend it to anyone.

true barThis is the grossest looking product I've ever seen. No one even wanted to try it, but I forced everyone to, even though I already have tried it before. I had tried it in a sample testing from Swaggable, and it was DISGUSTING! I didn't really want to taste it again but did for this review's sake. As you can guess, I absolutely HATED it. It was disgusting and I couldn't even swallow it. The texture, the flavor, it was just all wrong.

Niece: Hated it as well, and spit it out.

Mom: Thought it was gross, also spit it out.

Dad: Thought it was better than the Energizing Bites, but hated it as well.

You can buy a sleeve of 12 bars on their website for $17.99 making this sample roughly $1.50.

038The last food product in the box this month was a Zone Perfect bar in Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. These are basically nutrition bars for people who want a snack but don't want to fill up on fat and other junk that some snacks can contain. These are like healthy junkfood bars :)

cookie doughThis is what the delicious load of goodness looks like! It almost reminds me of the chocolate chip cookie dough Pop Tarts...but I'm not quite sure why. Anyways, this bar is literally FANTASTIC! It's so chewy, but it really does taste like cookie dough! It doesn't have a boring, fake flavor. It's SO good! My family seemed to think so too! It's a good, healthy alternative to eating raw cookie dough!

Niece: Loved it! Thought it tasted just as good as cookie dough!

Mom: Liked it! She didn't really say much except that...

Dad: Taste like taffy, has the same texture as well, liked it a lot.

You can purchase 12 packs of Zone Perfect bars on their website for $18.35 making this sample roughly $1.53!

I also received a $50 wine gift card from Naked Wine, but it requires you to spend money, and the cheapest I can get something is $19.95, which I'm not finding reasonable. Plus, I'm not even sure you can ship wine to MA?

Overall I really like this box, and I think it's going to be one I stick to. It's only $7 which is totally affordable considering some boxes out there, and they seem to put good size samples in! This month's box only valued up to $7.37, which isn't a great deal considering you ARE paying $7, but where I got this box for free this month, it was quite alright!
