This is my buggy box! :) From the sheet:
"This month we are Entomologists! Don't get bugged by bugs, get excited! Discover the science of Entomology and you'll enter the amazing world of insects. Did you know that thanks to insects, we have beautiful flowers and delicious fruits and veggies to eat? That's right! Insects pollinate the flowers and plants and also help break down organic matter to form rich soil which gives those plants the nutrients they need to grow!..."
The first item in my box was this HUGE inflatable insect from Learning Resources! Basically I guess it would be to teach your child about different insects. From the paper:
"Learning Resources Giant Inflatable Insects: These eye-catching, super sized insects will fascinate your children and help them learn what makes each insect unique! The realistic details are based on insect field guides, explore the incredible insect world in a fun, larger than life way!"
I was super excited to get this, I thought it was so cool and the first thing I did with it, was this:
I just HAD to compare it to my new little friend, Lexi-Doo! This is our new rescue pup. She's 5 years old, and apparently a lot smaller than a inflatable bee. The bee is super high quality and even has a spot that you can hang it from! Of course, this will be in my room and won't be given to my nieces ;)
You can purchase a set of 5 Insects on Learning Resources' website for $39.99 making this insect $8.00 but the paper says a MSRP of $9.99
The next item comes, again, from Learning Resources. It's their Big View Bug Jar! This jar contains air holes on the side so the bugs don't die.
You can push a dot on the Lady Bug and it's wings pop open showing it's magnifying glass!
This has a 3.5x magnifier! It's so awesome, and allows you to see the bugs up closely so you can see their details! From the paper:
"Primary Science Bug Jar: These adorable jars feature wings that open to invite little learners to investigate insects. A magnifying lens, hidden under the wings, supports enlarged scientific observation for your aspiring Entomologists!"
This was AWESOME! I had it for a week, and used it so many times. My niece took it out the minute she saw it. The next day I babysat my 2 little cousins (males) and they LOVED it! They had so much fun catching crickets and beetles. This definitely has gotten a lot of use so far. I really love that you can put bugs in and not have to let go of them super fast because they can't breathe. The air holes really come in handy! Of course you should never leave any bug in there for a large amount of time, that's just cruel! These come in different colors, but I'm happy we got the traditional red! This will be handed off to my nieces to have.
You can purchase this on Learning Resources' website for $5.99 although the paper states MSRP $8.99...
The next item is this Artzooka Clothespin Butterfly set! The set comes with items to make your own clothespin butterflies!
This kit includes 3 clothespins, and 150 felt stickers to decorate them! From the paper:
"Artzooka! Clothespin Wings Craft: Create your own colorful, clothespin, winged pals! Includes everything you need to make four fluttering insect friends! Get your creativity buzzing!"
I'm not sure if I received the wrong one, but my set only came with 3 butterflies...I really thought these were cute, and fun to do. My niece and I were bored one night and I forgot I had gotten these so we took them out! The felt is kind of hard to work with because it sticks to other pieces, but once you figure out a plan and just set them all aside, it's easy :P
You can purchase this kit from MumzWorld for $10.62 although the paper says MSRP $9.99
The last item in the box was the book "The Leaf Men" by William Joyce. This is a classic book that I remember reading in school. I'm glad to see that they're incorporating it in this box so the young ones can experience it. The back of the book reads:
"The garden is in peril! The brave good bugs march off to save it. First, they fight the evil Spider Queen- then summon the Leaf Men to the rescue. But what about the mystery of the Long-Lost Toy?"
The paper says:
"The Leaf Men by William Joyce: The Brave Good Bugs march off to save the garden! Follow their adventures along the way and meet the Leaf Men who are called on to save the day! Author William Joyce has brought a quirky perspective through beautiful artwork and an entertaining tale, offering children heroes and villains in this exciting insect world."
This book has nice, big lettering for those starting to read or who aren't so good at reading. Having already read this book as a child, and being 20 years old, I will be passing this on down to my littlest niece, who is 7. She's just starting to learn how to read well enough, not having to sound out everything, and I think this will be perfect for her!
You can purchase this book on Amazon for $7.19, and it has a MSRP of $7.99
TOTAL: $31.81 through prices I found online, and $36.96 through MSRP.
Overall I think this box is AWESOME! It gives great products to help teach children about certain things, this month being bugs. I love that it puts in fun items like crafts, toys, and books! It's a nice change from going to the store and buying something like a toy from a movie or something. It actually gives them educational value while letting kids think they're just playing! :) I'd love to see what the girl's box comes with! $27.99 seems like a lot a month, but in reality you're getting well worth the cost. These toys and books are of high quality and aren't just stupid little dollar tree toys. I really like the amount of effort put in to this to make it as good as it is! Can't wait to see the reviews of July's box! :)
Thank you to KidStash for sending this my way to review! My nieces and I had so much fun!
